Playtech is not the most visible slots provider in LATAM. It is the part-owner of the company that controls Caliente.
Founded in 1999 in Tartu (Estonia) by Teddy Sagi, Playtech is listed on the London Stock Exchange as part of the FTSE 250 index. In September 2024 it closed a deal that made it a shareholder of 30.8% of Cali Interactive, the new parent of the Caliplay group that operates Caliente Casino. The deal includes 140 million dollars in cash spread over four years plus the write-off of outstanding payments that exceeded $166M.
This matters more than any catalog review. Of the 24 regulated casinos we evaluated in Mexico, Argentina and Spain, 12 offer Playtech content — 50% of the panel. In practice, if you open an account at Caliente, Strendus, Codere (MX, AR or ES), Sportium or Luckia, you will find slots, tables and live casino from the Estonian studio.
This review explains what Playtech does, where to find it legally, which games justify the RTP and where the catalog feels dated.

The Caliplay Deal That Rewrote the Mexican Market
In 2022 a public dispute broke out between Playtech and Grupo Caliente over outstanding payments. By mid-2024 the figure exceeded 166 million dollars in unpaid software fees. There was litigation, crossed statements, and cuts to financial projections.
On September 16, 2024, both parties announced an amended agreement. Playtech received 30.8% of the equity in Cali Interactive, the new holding company of the Caliplay group. In exchange it agreed to collect $140 million in cash over four years and to close the commercial disputes. SBC Americas and NEXT.io covered the terms of the deal in detail.
Closing was scheduled for the first quarter of 2025, subject to antitrust approval in Mexico.
For the Mexican player the implication is direct. Caliente does not license Playtech as an ordinary client. It co-owns the business. That is why you find 10 Mexican-exclusive Playtech titles on caliente.mx that do not appear at other operators. The Age of the Gods, Cash Collect and Fire Blaze series are woven into the product's DNA.
The flip side of the deal: Playtech estimated in its reports to investors that cash flow would be 30 to 40 million euros lower for 2025 than the previous projection. The company's literal conclusion was that the amended agreement reduces its exposure but also its immediate upside.
Catalog: 700 Games, Four Subsidiaries and a Surprising RTP
Playtech states that its library exceeds 700 titles. Other sources cite figures between 600 and 700; the variation depends on whether retired, regional and exclusive games are counted. The official figure on playtech.com/products is the valid reference.
The catalog covers six verticals: slots, live casino, poker, bingo, sports and retail solutions. Behind the Playtech name several acquired studios also operate:
| Studio | Acquisition year | Specialty |
|---|---|---|
| Quickspin | 2016 | Premium narrative slots (Big Bad Wolf) |
| Eyecon | 2017 | Classic slots, Fluffy Favourites |
| Ash Gaming | 2011 | Branded slots (Top Trumps) |
| Rarestone Gaming | 2018 | Boutique slots |
The important technical note: RTP varies by segment. Slots with progressive jackpots have a lower RTP because part of the theoretical return is redirected to the pool. The Age of the Gods franchise, for example, pays 95.02% according to the technical sheets published on OnlineSlotsPilot and SlotsMate. That is below the sector average (96.5%).
In exchange, there are Playtech slots with some of the highest RTPs on the market. Goblin's Cave delivers 99.32%. Ugga Bugga reaches 99.07%. They are 2007 titles that many casinos still offer for that reason.
The Age of the Gods Series and Its Four Jackpots
Age of the Gods is the Greek-mythology slot family that defines Playtech. There are more than 20 titles that share a pool of progressive jackpots across four tiers:
- Power — the most frequent, pays tens of thousands
- Extra Power — pays six figures
- Super Power — seven figures
- Ultimate Power — a red-wide pool, pays eight figures and triggers at random
The relevant detail: the Ultimate Power is shared across all slots in the franchise. When someone wins it at any casino in the world that offers Age of the Gods, the counter resets for everyone. That is why the pot grows fast when player volume is high, and why many Mexican sites feature it on the homepage.
Live Casino and the LATAM Studios
Playtech runs more than 100 tables distributed across studios in Latvia, Romania, the Philippines, Spain and Peru. Its flagship product is the Quantum family:
- Quantum Roulette — multipliers of up to 500x on straight-up bets
- Quantum Blackjack — modifiers that apply multipliers to blackjack payouts
- Adventures Beyond Wonderland — a game show with a wheel and live mini-games
The Peruvian studio is the LATAM piece that Latin American reps highlight most in B2B presentations. It is oriented to the region's schedule and accent. For Spain the production is done mostly at the European studio.
Legal Casinos with Playtech in Mexico, Argentina and Spain
This is the list we cross-checked against the panel of 24 operators we tested between March and May 2026. The presence or absence of Playtech was verified by reading the lobby footer, opening the provider filter and checking the bonus terms when there were rollover-contribution restrictions.
Mexico (4 casinos):
- Caliente — co-owned (30.8%), 10 exclusive titles
- Strendus — broad Age of the Gods and Cash Collect catalog
- Codere Mexico — available in slots and live casino
- Betcris — limited Playtech selection, mainly Cash Collect
Argentina (3 casinos):
- Codere Argentina — same catalog as the Mexican version
- BetWarrior — Playtech present on Quantum tables
- Bplay — some Age of the Gods slots, mainly LATAM exclusives
Spain (8 casinos):
- Codere Spain — the most complete catalog in the panel
- Sportium — slots and live casino
- Luckia — Age of the Gods + branded slots
- 888casino Spain — a Quickspin selection (Playtech subsidiary)
- bwin Spain — Playtech slots in the jackpots category
- PokerStars Casino Spain — limited to some jackpots
- Betway Spain — Buffalo Blitz, Cash Collect
- LeoVegas Spain — Quickspin and Age of the Gods
Operators change providers frequently. The list reflects the situation verified in May 2026 and may vary if a casino renegotiates its contract.
Licenses: UKGC and MGA Set the Standard
Playtech operates under two regulatory licenses that are critical for the iGaming sector:
- UK Gambling Commission #38516 — the United Kingdom is the most demanding jurisdiction in the world in terms of regulatory auditing
- Malta Gaming Authority MGA/CRP/137/2007 — issued on December 6, 2018, covering operations in the EU
Additionally, corporate communications mention more than 170 licenses across 30 regulated jurisdictions. This figure includes individual national and sub-national authorizations in the United States, Latin America and regulated European markets.
For the player the practical implication is this: when you see a Playtech slot at a casino licensed by SEGOB (Mexico), DGOJ (Spain) or LOTBA/IPLyC (Argentina), the game has already passed two regulatory filters. The first was applied by Playtech to obtain the British or Maltese license. The second is applied by the local regulator when it approves the operator's catalog.
Awards and Independent Recognition
In February 2025 Playtech won Platform of the Year at the EGR B2B Awards, the most relevant category in the sector. It adds four additional trophies received in previous editions. It also appears on the Casino Supplier of the Year shortlist at the EGR Latam Awards 2025.
EGR (eGaming Review) is the reference publication of the iGaming sector in terms of B2B coverage. The EGR Awards are not a popular vote; they use industry juries and audited data. An EGR platform-of-the-year award does not guarantee fairness, but it indicates that partners and corporate clients in the sector consider Playtech a stable provider.
How We Tested Playtech: Methodology
Testing was done across six sessions between March and May 2026.
We opened accounts at Caliente.mx and Codere Spain with real deposits. We played 200 spins of Age of the Gods: King of Olympus, recording hit frequency (38 spins with a win out of 200 = 19%, within the expected range). We tried two Quantum Roulette tables at Codere ES to evaluate video latency (average 1.8 seconds with no lag) and Spanish-speaking dealer availability (yes, a LATAM shift available 20:00 to 04:00 UTC).
We contacted Sportium support with the question "Which Playtech games remain available after the DGOJ regulatory change?". A chat reply came in 3 minutes 24 seconds, with the correct list delivered in writing.
We cross-checked financial figures with Playtech's public investor reports and notes from SBC Americas, iGaming Business and NEXT.io. The corporate figures (FTSE 250, founded 1999, Caliplay deal) are confirmed in official sources. The catalog figures (600 to 700 games) vary between publications.
We received no compensation from Playtech or from any of the operators listed.
The Good and the Bad: An Honest Analysis
The good
- Real red-wide progressive jackpots — Age of the Gods Ultimate Power triggers on a multi-million network; it is not single-casino marketing
- Very high RTP on legacy slots — Goblin's Cave 99.32% and Ugga Bugga 99.07% are still available at many operators
- Multi-studio live casino with low latency — Quantum Roulette/Blackjack is a top-tier product
- UKGC + MGA auditing — the double regulatory filter reduces the risk of manipulated games
The bad
- The 2022-2024 Caliplay dispute left a mark on the relationship with LATAM partners. The September 2024 agreement closed the chapter, but the shadow of public litigation affected perception
- The Age of the Gods RTP is 95.02%, below the sector average. The trade-off (lower RTP in exchange for a jackpot) is transparent, but a casual player does not always read it
- Legacy catalog — titles such as Gold Rally are still active, but their graphics and UX feel like the mid-2010s
- Per-operator geo-restrictions — not all games are available at all casinos. Before depositing, it is worth checking the specific operator's provider filter
