SPEI processed 7.3 billion electronic transfers in Mexico during 2025. That is 36.8% growth over the previous year, according to Banxico data. At online casinos, this system is the fastest method and the only one that allows deposits and withdrawals with no fee straight from your phone.
We tested SPEI at 6 SEGOB-licensed casinos during April 2026. Deposits credited in under 30 seconds in 5 of the 6 cases. Withdrawals took between 2 and 22 hours. This guide covers real timings, verified limits and a direct comparison with OXXO and Visa.

The SPEI Deposit Arrives in Under 30 Seconds
According to Banxico, a SPEI transfer must take no more than 30 seconds to complete. In our testing we confirmed it.
The process is straightforward. You go to the casino cashier, select SPEI as your deposit method and enter the amount. The casino shows you an 18-digit destination CLABE and a payment concept or reference. You open your banking app (BBVA, Banorte, Santander, HSBC or any bank connected to SPEI), paste the CLABE, confirm the amount and authorize the transfer.
At Caliente, the balance appeared 12 seconds after confirming in the BBVA app. At Strendus, 8 seconds. At Codere, 22 seconds. The only slow case was 1win, where the deposit took 4 minutes and 37 seconds. That is not a SPEI problem but the casino's internal processing.
| Casino | Bank used | Crediting time |
|---|---|---|
| Caliente | BBVA | 12 seconds |
| Strendus | BBVA | 8 seconds |
| Codere | Banorte | 22 seconds |
| Winpot | Santander | 15 seconds |
| GanaBet | BBVA | 11 seconds |
| 1win | BBVA | 4 min 37 sec |
Technical detail: the casino receives the funds through an aggregator (usually STP, Sistema de Transferencias y Pagos). STP is not the same as SPEI. SPEI is the Banxico network. STP is a fintech that participates as an intermediary in the SPEI network to process merchant payments. Any delay you experience comes from the casino's processing or from STP, not from SPEI.
SPEI Withdrawals: 2 to 22 Hours Depending on the Casino
SPEI is the only cash-equivalent deposit method that also allows withdrawals. OXXO does not allow withdrawals. Neither does Paynet. Visa takes 1-5 days. With SPEI, the money reaches your bank account the same day in most cases.
The withdrawal process: you request the amount at the casino cashier, enter your personal bank CLABE (you find it in your banking app, under "Mis datos" or "Cuenta") and wait. If it is your first withdrawal, the casino will ask for KYC verification before processing: official ID (INE) and proof of address.
Our timings measured in April 2026:
| Casino | Amount | Total time | Prior KYC |
|---|---|---|---|
| Caliente | $2,000 MXN | 3 hours 14 min | Yes (10 min) |
| Strendus | $1,500 MXN | 2 hours 8 min | Already verified |
| Codere | $3,000 MXN | 6 hours 42 min | Yes (25 min) |
| Winpot | $1,000 MXN | 22 hours 11 min | Already verified |
| GanaBet | $2,500 MXN | 4 hours 30 min | Already verified |
Strendus was the fastest at just over 2 hours. Winpot was the slowest, at more than 22 hours. The difference is not in the SPEI system but in how long the casino takes to approve and process the request internally.
No Fees: Neither from the Casino Nor from Your Bank
None of the 6 casinos we tested charge a fee for deposits or withdrawals via SPEI. Zero.
On the banking side, most Mexican banks do not charge for regular SPEI transfers. BBVA, Banorte, Santander, HSBC, Citibanamex: all offer free SPEI transfers or transfers included in the account's service package.
There are exceptions. Some basic or limited payroll accounts have a cap on free transfers per month (usually 3-6). After that cap, the bank may charge between $3 and $10 MXN per additional transfer. Check the conditions of your specific account.
By comparison: OXXO charges a fixed $15 MXN per transaction. Visa charges no casino fee, but your issuing bank may classify the deposit as a cash advance and charge 3-5%. SPEI is the cheapest option in every scenario.
Deposit and Withdrawal Limits by Casino
The limits are set by the casino, not SPEI. The Banxico system can handle transfers of any amount (94% are for amounts under $13,200 MXN according to Banxico 2025 statistics).
| Casino | Min. deposit | Max. deposit | Min. withdrawal | Max. withdrawal |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Caliente | $100 MXN | $50,000 MXN | $200 MXN | $100,000 MXN |
| Codere | $100 MXN | $30,000 MXN | $200 MXN | $50,000 MXN |
| Strendus | $20 MXN | $50,000 MXN | $100 MXN | $80,000 MXN |
| Winpot | $100 MXN | $30,000 MXN | $200 MXN | $40,000 MXN |
| GanaBet | $100 MXN | $20,000 MXN | $200 MXN | $30,000 MXN |
Strendus has the lowest minimum deposit: just $20 MXN. For large withdrawals, Caliente allows up to $100,000 MXN per transaction. The limits can change depending on your verification level on each platform.
SPEI vs OXXO vs Visa: Three Methods, Three Profiles
Each method solves a different problem. SPEI is the fastest and cheapest but requires a bank account. OXXO works without a bank but is slow and charges a fee. Visa is universal but withdrawals take days.
| Criterion | SPEI | OXXO | Visa |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deposit | Instant | 8-42 min | Instant |
| Withdrawal | 1-24 hours | Not available | 1-5 days |
| Fee | $0 | $15 MXN | $0 (casino) |
| Bank account | Required | Not needed | Requires a card |
| Anonymity | No | Yes | No |
| Availability | 24/7 | Store hours | 24/7 |
SPEI vs OXXO — Speed against Accessibility
If you have a bank account, SPEI is better in every way: faster, cheaper, allows withdrawals. The SPEI deposit takes seconds. The OXXO one takes minutes to hours.
But 46% of Mexican adults do not have a bank account according to the National Financial Inclusion Survey. For them, OXXO is the only way to deposit at online casinos. It is not an inferior method, it is a method for a different audience.
SPEI vs Visa — Transfer against Card
For deposits, both are instant. The difference is in withdrawals: SPEI returns your money in hours, Visa in days. In addition, some banks block card transactions to casinos, a problem that with SPEI barely exists because the transfer goes to a commercial CLABE, not to a merchant category.
Visa's advantage: it works outside Mexico. SPEI is exclusively Mexican.
What SPEI Is and Why to Trust the System
SPEI (Sistema de Pagos Electronicos Interbancarios) is the transfer network operated directly by Banco de Mexico. It is not a private company. It is not a fintech. It is financial infrastructure of the Mexican state.
The numbers back it up. In 2025, 75% of Mexican adults made at least one SPEI transfer. The system processed 7.3 billion operations in the year, 36.8% more than in 2024. According to Expansion, Banxico expects SPEI transfers to overtake card payments during 2026.
Each transfer generates a CEP (Comprobante Electronico de Pago) that you can look up at banxico.org.mx/cep/. If a deposit at the casino does not show up, the CEP is your official proof that the transfer completed. It is issued by Banxico, not by your bank or the casino. It has legal value.
The encryption is bank-grade. Transactions travel over Banxico's internal network with security protocols that meet the international standards of the CPMI (Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures of the BIS).
Three Limitations You Should Know
SPEI is not perfect. These are the real limitations.
It requires a bank account. There is no way to use SPEI without an account at a Mexican bank connected to the network. If you have no account, OXXO or Paynet are your alternatives.
It is not anonymous. Every SPEI transfer records your full name, CLABE, issuing bank and associated RFC. The casino knows exactly who deposits. For players who value privacy, OXXO (cash) or Bitcoin offer greater anonymity.
The withdrawal depends on the casino, not SPEI. Although SPEI processes transfers in seconds, casinos take hours to approve withdrawals. The 2-to-22-hour delay we measured is 100% attributable to the operator's internal processing, not the banking system.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a SPEI deposit take at an online casino?
Under 30 seconds in most cases. In our testing, 5 of 6 casinos credited the deposit in under 25 seconds. The sixth took 4 minutes due to internal processing.
Can you withdraw casino money via SPEI?
Yes. SPEI is the fastest withdrawal method in Mexico for online casinos. In our testing, withdrawals took between 2 and 22 hours depending on the casino.
Is there a fee for depositing with SPEI?
No. Neither the casino nor SPEI charges a fee. Your bank could charge if you exceed your account's free-transfer limit, but most major banks do not.
What is the minimum deposit with SPEI?
It varies by casino. Strendus accepts from $20 MXN. Caliente, Codere and Winpot from $100 MXN.
Does SPEI work 24 hours a day for casinos?
Yes. SPEI operates 24/7, 365 days a year. You can deposit at 3 in the morning on a Sunday and the balance will appear instantly.
What is the CLABE and where do I find it?
The CLABE is your 18-digit Standardized Banking Code (Clave Bancaria Estandarizada). You find it in your banking app, under "Mi cuenta" or "Datos de la cuenta." It is the equivalent of an account number but standardized for interbank transfers.
Is it safe to use SPEI at online casinos?
Yes, as long as the casino holds a SEGOB/DGJS license. SPEI is operated by Banco de Mexico with bank-grade encryption. Each transaction generates a CEP (Comprobante Electronico de Pago) verifiable at banxico.org.mx.
